Third-Party Certification and Re-Certification
Your researchers and the community expect that your biocontainment facility is being managed safely within a secure environment. Annual verification that your laboratory meets or exceeds nationally or internationally acknowledged biosafety standards in its design and operation is an important part of due diligence as an employer, recipient of grants and being a good community member. A team certification incorporates elements of a risk assessment to determine whether the biocontainment facility is built to, and operating at, acceptable biocontainment standards.
World BioHazTec Corp. (WBHT) recognizes the valuable expertise of the biosafety officer and the facility engineers. We work directly with these professionals to achieve the optimal goal: to certify your facility. Our approach is to work with the biosafety officer and facility engineers to remediate any facility deficiencies and to include quality improvements and suggestions. We evaluate your safety management systems, biosafety policies and procedures and validate engineering controls and building systems. By focusing on these distinct but related elements, we ensure that your facility is validated. When we leave the facility, we are still committed to your success. We provide reach-back services for assistance as needed, in a timely manner.
WBHT’s annual certification follows:
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories Guidelines (BMBL), 5th Edition (2007)
- Select Biological Agents and Toxins Rule (42 CFR §73.16)
- NIH Biosafety Level 3 – Laboratory Certification Requirements (2007)
- U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Research Service Guidelines
- NIH Design Requirements
- World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines
- International certifications utilize the country’s applicable guidelines and requirements.
The NIH Biosafety Level 3 – Laboratory Certification Requirements states, "Certification of high containment laboratories will be performed by a team of professionals with experience and credentials in engineering and biosafety/occupational safety and health." WBHT has a team of professional engineers and biosafety professionals with the credentials and the experience to perform your third-party certification. Once the biocontainment facility is certified, WBHT issues a Certification Assessment Record Documents Report and Statement of Certification/Letter of Compliance. Additionally, you will receive access to WBHT’s expertise for any questions or input, for a one-year period.
